Thinking through different ways to have an interactive article I have come to the decision that my idea of Working out/ bodybuilding will be the best option for me. To most people when they hear about bodybuilding they automatically think of enormous individuals who are looked at as freaks in the eyes of the public. Towards the beginning of this article I will discuss what the first glimpses of individuals pushing their bodies to their natural limits and surpassing them. From the beginning of time there have been contests of men trying to see who was the strongest or who could lift the heaviest objects.
The first contests to be known about to be the first power lifting or strongman contests were stone lifting. These contests that were held were very strenuous on the individuals participating because of how much technique was needed to lift a stone over a certain height to clear the challenge.
These first strongman games and contest spurred up a revelation of men that felt as if they needed to be the best in their region. These competitions over the years have emerged into a renowned competition called the Worlds Strongest Man competitions. The first competition was held in 1970 where some of the lifts that were done that day can be seen in today’s competitions. Being viewed by millions this sport has still not changed in slightest.
After going through an overview of how the beginnings of pushing the human body to limits. the next topics that I will discuss include. How bodybuilding became such a natural phenomenon that struck waves through young minds to get out their and push their physical appearance to its limits.
The risks on how pushing your body to its limits can come instant or have a negative effect over time. The most used substance known by the public for helping individuals gain massive amounts of muscle while cutting down on body fat is steroids . The different types of steroids vary from Corticosteroids and Anabolic steroids. These substance are chemicals that each human body produces naturally. While these chemicals are produced within each body when adding an excess amount to the body the bodies reaction is to use it immediately to have its effects.
Working out/ bodybuilding- Why and when did it become popular to push the human body to its very limits to obtain the most muscle possible. How has the sport of bodybuilding evolved over the years. Who were influential bodybuilders let led the sport to its fame that it is now known for.
Google- how does google still reign supreme today as the number one search engine on the internet. who invited Google? How does Google stay running today with so much traffic coming through its servers?
Alcoholism- when did it become relevant in the human mind to be so consumed with one type of action to damper the mind and senses. How does being an alcoholic effect work and family members around you.
College- Does college still rank as the number one way in trying to find a long lasting career. When in college does internships help out finding such job. How has the evolution of internships evolved over the years.
Apple iPhone- What is the point in having an iPhone over other products that operate on the same basis of communication. Along with the iPhone how does the Apple inc. differ from companies how follow suit in what they for-see to be a successful product.
As advertisements come and go the messages that they display across media does not. Each message that comes in contact with a viewer might mean different things. When content is created it is important to make sure that it released properly and to mass audiences.
“I first build a definition of content, one that respects the ground already laid by technical communication and the so-called content professions”. (Dush, 2015).
Working for a company as such as Nike to most people that will be the peak of all professions for a company that continuously creates content for all viewers. Greatness can be obtained through any form of medium.
Through this campaign that Nike launched they have influenced everyone on how to look at greatness as a whole. Reviewing the article by Lisa Dush When Writing Becomes Content helps give light on certain subjects on how going through a profession where in creating content is a key form in making the profession grow successful. This video shows how each aspect of peoples lives can be perceived as being great. This video shows people viewing advertisements then after watching them turning the camera toward the viewer to show that not only is the famous person in the ad great but the person viewing it is actually great and able to obtain greatness.
Through digital storytelling this is a small glimpse into how I recovered from both of my arches collapsing going into my senior year of high school. Setting your mind to something and going through with it until the end goal of success is the underlying dramatic question throughout this short movie.
Digital Storytelling is very influential in today’s society given that everyone is always connected in some way to the internet. Being connected through one common method of communication can seem overwhelming at times when thinking about how much communication goes into immense world of the internet.
My story that I will be discussing is how going from playing multiple sports and working in High school to having collapsed arches ruining everything set forth in my path to success.
Through the act of digital storytelling the immediate point of view that the audience can connect with is how everything is going right in your life then it gets flipped upside down. This portion of my life I tend to think about on a daily basis because of how much passion I had for the sports that I played. The First sport that I learned how to play was football and continued to play all my life until this tragic incident occurred. Through pictures of me in the stages of me getting my casts on and when they were taken off will help illustrate how this story is played out.
Other ideas for my digital story included.
My journey into to new fun experiences like running races that have obstacles to go over and through.
How growing up around many lakes in my county and not having a formal teacher for fishing but just hoping out on the lake with a pole trying to catch fish.
The perception of a meme is interesting when not given the context when it was first conceived. The original photo of this baby and his father was featured on the family photographer’s blog in 2011. Then a year later Dave the father posted the cropped picture of his son on Reddit then it landed on the front page with 1133 upvotes. This surprisingly enough was the birth of a new and interesting meme life cycle.
The life cycle of a meme such as this one is interesting to find out the origins behind where the picture was taken and who else was in the original frame. This meme became so popular in my opinion because of its relatabilty factor in that everyone has seen a baby but maybe not seen a baby make a face such as this one. For me that is a big factor when trying find a meme that is funny and that I can connect with. After coming up with the proper factors to generate the meme the only other thing to do is publish it out to the world
Above is a meme that I made of my dog peanut. The picture context is him at the vet for a check up after he ate all of my socks chewing big holes in all of them. Prior to him eating all of my socks he got a toy for his birthday. Everyone who has a dog or knows someone that has a dog in their life knows the struggle when the dog eats your belongings. The relatablity for me in this meme is that it is my dog then knowing the common struggle of having a dog.
From the golden arches to the sometimes miss-made orders you can always tell that you went to McDonald’s. These common conceptions have become house hold phrases. Over the years the arches may have changed a long with the 15 cent hamburgers but something that has never changed is the fast service that now a days has the costumers checking their orders before they leave.
Above is a picture that illustrates how the buildings looked in the 60’s. Towards the end of the 60’s the logo was changed to the iconic big yellow M or otherwise noted by the “golden arches.” After the two arches merged into one singular logo the business establishment seemed to shift into a different direction. Transitioning from family friendly to finding out who or what would be the voice of Mcdonald’s could have been a challenge but when Ronald came into the picture the game changed completely.
Over years of trial and error Mcdonald’s came up with a clown that was not only different from the first one shown above but suited their needs they were looking for. Portraying food expectations through commercials is a hard task that some companies succeed in while others do not. Mcdonald’s has sadly fallen into that pack of business that does not portray everything appropriately. Everyone has seen commercials where the burgers look so good they actually look fake. Then after placing the order they saw on the television the food sadly does not look the same. While the ads have changed over the years the same sesame bun has not altered. Advertisements will portray what the business’s want the public to see but it is up to the public to see through the advertisements to see the true meaning.
Above is a picture of a map that is being draw out by Casey Neistat. The map was used to illustrate where he was going and what he was trying to get across when Nike teamed up with him to release a new product. This individual has partnered up with countless companies creating content for commercials and other free lancing work. Casey has always been a film maker and in recent years he has blown up in the online community through YouTube. Becoming an everyday vlogger was his main mission for almost two years until he began his journey into other endeavors.
Through the platform of YouTube now-a-days everyone is trying to become a vlogger to create their own community of common interests. Certain aspects of the vlogging style by Neistat can be seen by many up and coming individuals who either haven’t found their niche or just try to imitate what he has already set forth. A community can be any amount of people there share common goals or have some interests that co-inside with each other. Online communities are still rapidly growing and the only way from here is up for the rest of the internet.
The four techniques Logos, Ethos, Pathos and Kairos are discussed heavily in this chapter. These techniques used in this chapter have relating subject matter that makes it easy to understand what each one means. Through advertisements one technique that is used often is pathos. Advertisements can get a bad reputation for being to forward and appealing to too much emotion for someone to take in at one time.
The insert of a commercial shown above is from the BCSPCA where everyone speaks for animals and activists act on saving animals lives. Some individuals that witness this commercial coming across their television and turn it to the next channel because they don’t want to see sadness. What is shocking is when the individuals change the channel they don’t want to believe the truth that is out in the world concerning sensitive subjects. Another term used in this chapter is logos and is understood as the logic behind an argument. Going through the four techniques in this chapter can be remember simple by thinking of the Rhetorically Triangle. Ethos when referred to in film or television is how much the audience puts their trust into that character. Being fully accepting and open towards messages also refers to one of the terms which is pathos.
When the word rhetoric comes to my mind it is always accompanied by the names Plato and Aristotle. The reason why that continuously is from the constant reminders in my grade school years English teachers making sure all of us young people knew who and what we were talking about. From all of those years with English teachers harping down on what we had to learn about each week when the rhetoric conversation became relevant again I simplified it down so that I could understand it much easier.
Coming up through my years of school making study materials and representations of what the teachers said was difficult but once I understood how to simply materials it made my life and grades much better. Rhetoric in my own words allows us to understand what we are looking at and how to approach interactions based on what is set in front of us. For example a stop light is a rectangle with three circles and three different colors in those circles. If it was not represented that the red circle on the top of the rectangle was meant for the oncoming traffic to stop then there would be accidents on every street corner. When driving up to a stop light we can us rhetoric when looking at the stop light to interpret what we need to do before crossing the intersection.
